The Canticle of Tobit set out below is used as the first of the third nocturn canticles in the Common of the Dedication of a Church.
Canticum Tobiae
(13:10-17)
Benedícite Dóminum * omnes
elécti eius: ágite dies lætítiæ, et confitémini illi.
|
Bless ye the Lord, all his
elect, keep days of joy, and give glory to him.
|
Ierúsalem, cívitas Dei, *castigávit
te Dóminus in opéribus mánuum tuárum.
|
Jerusalem, city of God, the
Lord hath chastised thee for the works of thy hands.
|
Confitére Dómino in bonis
tuis *et bénedic Deum sæculórum; ut reædíficet in te tabernáculum suum,
|
Give glory to the Lord for
thy good things, and bless the God eternal, that he may rebuild his
tabernacle in thee,
|
Et révocet ad te omnes
captívos, *et gáudeas in ómnia sæcula sæculórum.
|
and may call back all the
captives to thee, and thou mayst rejoice for ever and ever.
|
Luce spléndida fulgébis, *
et omnes fines terræ ad orábunt te.
|
Thou shalt shine with a
glorious light: and all the ends of the earth shall worship thee.
|
Natiónes ex longínquo ad te
vénient, * et múnera deferéntes adorábunt in te Dóminum.
|
Nations from afar shall
come to thee: and shall bring gifts, and shall adore the Lord in thee.
|
Et terram tuam in
sanctificatiónem habébunt, * Nomen enim magnum invocábunt in te.
|
And they shall esteem thy
land as holy. For they shall call upon the great name in thee.
|
Maledícti erunt qui contémpserint
te, † et condemnáti erunt omnes qui blasphemáverint te: * benedíctique erunt
qui ædificáverint te.
|
They shall be cursed that
shall despise thee: and they shall be condemned that shall blaspheme thee:
and blessed shall they be that shall build thee up.
|
Tu autem lætáberis in
fíliis tuis, quóniam omnes benedicéntur * et congregabúntur ad Dóminum.
|
But thou shalt rejoice in
thy children, because they shall all be blessed, and shall be gathered
together to the Lord.
|
Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui
Sancto.
|
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, *
and to the Holy Ghost.
|
Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper,
* et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
|
As it was in the beginning, is now, * and
ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
