Canticle of Jeremiah (7:2-7)

The canticle set out below is the third of those used for Matins in the Common for the Dedication of a Church.

Canticum Ieremiae (7:2-7)

Audíte verbum Dómini, omnis Iuda, * qui ingredímini per portas has, ut adorétis Dóminum.	‘Hear the word of the Lord, all you of Juda who enter these gates to worship the Lord!
Hæc dicit Dóminus exercítuum * Deus Israël:	Thus says the Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel:
Bonas fácite vias vestras et stúdia vestra: * et habitábo vobíscum in loco isto.	Reform your ways and your deeds, so that I may remain with you in this place.
Nolíte confídere in verbis mendácii, dicéntes: * Templum Dómini, templum Dómini, templum Dómini est.	Put not your trust in the deceitful words: This is the temple of the Lord! The temple of the Lord! The temple of the Lord!
Quóniam si bene direxéritis vias vestras, * et stúdia vestra:	Only if you thoroughly reform your ways and your deeds;
Si fecéritis iudícium inter virum et próximum eius, * ádvenæ et pupíllo et víduæ non fecéritis calúmniam,	If each of you deals justly with his neighbor; if you no longer oppress the resident alien, the orphan, and the widow;
Nec sánguinem innocéntem effudéritis in loco hoc * et post deos aliénos non ambulavéritis in malum vobismetípsis:	If you no longer shed innocent blood in this place, or follow strange gods to your own harm,
Habitábo vobíscum in loco isto: * in terra, quam dedi patribus vestris a sǽculo et usque in sǽculum.	Will I remain with you in this place, in the land which I gave your fathers long ago and forever.
Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.	Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.
Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.	As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

The second canticle for the dedication of a church is from Isaiah 2:2-3.

Canticum Isaiae

Et erit in novíssimis diebus: præparátus mons domus Dómini *in vértice móntium,	And in the last days the mountain of the house of the Lord shall be prepared on the top of mountains,
Et elevábitur super colles; * et fluent ad eum omnes gentes.	And it shall be exalted above the hills, and all nations shall flow unto it.
Et ibunt pópuli multi, et dicent: * Veníte, et ascendámus ad montem Dómini, et ad domum Dei Iacob;	And many people shall go, and say: Come and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, and to the house of the God of Jacob,
Et docóbit nos vias suas, * et ambulábimus in sémitis eius:	And he will teach us his ways, and we will walk in his paths:
Quia de Sion exíbit lex, * et verbum Dómini de Ierúsalem.	For the law shall come forth from Sion, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
